Documentary Photography Part 2: Task 4 & 5 - Testing order of final images

For the sales topic i wanted to include two images of some internet offers because the Morrison's deal says you can win free shopping in big letters so it attracts more people to their shop to get free shopping.
I also wanted to include the DFS sale in my pictures because their heading is massive savings which would also attract more customers but its not ideal for my final images because furniture isn't an essential compared to food. So in the end i chose only the Morrison's sale.

I definitely wanted this photograph in my final images because of all the 'To Let' signs this was the image that i took which had the most for sale signs. I think this image is quite narrative but also mysterious at the same time because you wonder why their all up for sale.

This image i wanted in the final because due to the recession the housing market and interest rates being down and as a result of that people aren't buying their own houses so their renting. I think this image is quite effective at telling a story because the amount of houses that are up for sale or rent in the shop window is shocking.

I also wanted to include gambling shops because of other shops that have closed down and the space isn't being sold for anything so gambling shops take the space. I think this image is quite ironic because there is a no entry sign almost saying not to gamble because its bad and then gambling shops in the background.

I find this image also ironic because the shop is shut down waiting for someone to buy it and next door to it there is a cheap shop where everything they sell is a pound.

I also wanted to include this image because of businesses not receiving enough customers and then having to close down or move somewhere else. I think this is a narrative image because it tells the story that not enough people in Bradford have alot of money to spend so the businesses are having to shut as a result or move to another city where they would receive the business and thrive there.

I particularly like this image because the letters of the sign on the building have half fallen off. It's a narrative image because the building has been closed down for such a long time that windows have broken, the building is dirty and again the sign falling off.

At first i didn't want to include this image in my final ones because i thought it wasn't a strong image. But after convincing i decided to add it as part of the closed down buildings category.  I think this is a narrative image because all the houses on that street have been shut down and boarded up. These houses are located in the Bradford town (Westgate).

This was the first image i took and it had to be in my final images because of the condition of the building. The paint is chipping away and its used as an advertisement building due to the amount of old posters stuck on it from being closed so long. That's why its a narrative image.

Out of all the newspaper article images i think this image is the best one because the title sums up the recession and the effects of it perfectly. I really like this image because there is a ray of light shining onto the image signifying that even though times are bad they'll get better eventually.

This photograph is a narrative image because the hole in Bradford has been there for a long time and nothing is going to happen to it because no one wants to buy it. When i was taking these images i only took two photographs due to no matter how many i took it would look the same from different angles.

1) Sale

2) 'To Let'

3) Estate Agents

4) Gambling/ Charity Shops

5) Closed Buildings

6) Newspaper headlines

7) The hole in Bradford

I wanted the order of my images to show how a shop can soon be put out of business and some of the impacts on people, cities and also the scenery in the city.
