Painting2Photography: Task 3,4&5

Examples of how a piece of art has been influenced by photography:

Nocturne in Black and Gold, the Falling Rocket by James Abbott Whistler:

This painting has been influenced by photography because Whistler tried capturing the movement of a firework travelling through the sky. James Abbott Whistler managed this because when cameras were still in development long shutter exposures were needed. Which for Whistler's photograph is lucky because he was trying to capture the fireworks trail.

 Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres:

These paintings have been influenced by photography because in 1807 the camera lucida was invented and its an optical device in which the artist looks through the lens and the image of the subject is projected onto where the artist is drawing the subject. The artist can see both the subject and the drawing so that its easier for the artist to draw the main key points and make the drawing more accurate.
In the Hockney-Falco thesis and on Hockney's "great wall" realism started in the 1400's and there is a lot of evidence that cameras have been used to help the artists due to patterns in clothes looking more real, clear and colourful like in these:
Another explanation for artists using cameras is that facial expressions were captured more and looked a lot more real in paintings like this for example:

Bal du Moulin de la Galette by Auguste Renoir:
This photograph was impacted by photography as well because in the early 19th century many artists were painting royals portraits and religious paintings which were posed down to every little detail. Auguste Renoir tried to capture people in everyday environments and situations so that viewers could see into the subjects world like photographs do when they take photographs. Renoir succeeded at recreating this because the subjects aren't posed but they have been stopped in action, he used brush strokes to accentuate this. After this painting many artists tried to recreate the "decisive moment" when a photographer takes the photograph, and the everyday scene.

Examples of how a photograph has been influenced by art:

I found this picture on Google images and i think this has been influenced by art because it is recreating the pop art style. Pop art started in the 1950's and was very popular in America and England. One famous artist during the pop art era was Andy Warhol because of his Campbell's soup but also for his Marilyn Monroe pop art:
Because Andy Warhol had created something so unique it is still used today in webcam features, and make your own http://www.poparted.co.uk/Pop-art-style-portraits.html.
